Yesterday was sunny.
I slept in until around 3 o'clock.
I watched "Boogie Nights" (1997). I think it's really good. It's about the pornographic film industry in the 70's in America. It's not gratuitous though; instead desperate and exhausted and 'real'. I think the segments of the Dirk Diggler movies that the characters were creating were distracting. I really loved John C. Reilly and William H. Macy and even Mark Wahlberg. There's this one scene where he is just staring at the camera for nearly 45 seconds and its really haunting. The score is also really great. There is this climax scene with just a gong being hit with so much suspense and terror. Then I watched "Boogie Nights" with the director commentary. Paul Thomas Anderson is so great to listen to talking about his movies. He's inspiring.
Then I watched "Boogie Nights" with the director and cast commentary. John C. Reilly and Don Cheadle were great. Mark Wahlberg kept yawing, answering his phone and saying he needed to catch a plane. He was still somehow endearing maybe? I dunno. I would have liked to hear Phillip Seymour Hoffman's perspective but he was absent.
I know a lot about "Boogie Nights".
